How to Use It
  • Take one pill once daily, preferably at the same time each day

  • Can be taken with or without food

  • Must be taken every day to ensure full protection

  • Initial lab work required (HIV test, kidney function)

  • Follow-up labs every 3 months during continued use
We’ll help you through the lab process and ongoing monitoring with simple reminders and guidance.

How It Works

Truvada contains two antiretroviral medications that block the virus’s ability to establish infection in your body. When taken daily, it builds up protective levels in the bloodstream and vaginal tissues to prevent HIV from taking hold, even with exposure.

  • Stops HIV from replicating

  • Prevents the virus from entering immune cells

  • Builds up protection with consistent daily use

  • Can be taken long-term with regular monitoring

When to Expect Results

  • Protection starts to build within 7–20 days of daily use

  • Full protection achieved by 3 weeks in vaginal tissue

  • Works only if taken consistently—don’t skip doses

  • Must be combined with routine testing and regular provider follow-up
